Sivakumarkpk34field@gmail.com
Lipodystrophy is the acquired or inherited metabolic disorder sophisticated by complete or partial loss of fat in the body. The disorders of lipodystrophy are differentiated by degrees of severity, and by areas or organ systems of the body affected. The pathogenesis remains unestablished, but chiefly it is associated with adipose tissue as well as genetic and other host factors. Genetic and molecular researches help to improve underlying mechanism of the lipodystrophy. Magnetic resonance imaging, dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, computed tomography, ultrasonography and other laboratory tests are helpful to assess the fat content and other related disorders at regular intervals. It is combined with a number of complications mostly diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and other metabolic abnormalities. The proper usage of diet, exercise, nutrition and therapeutic usage of growth hormones, anti-diabetic drugs, hyper-lipidemic drugs, changes in HIV medications are helpful in controlling lipodystrophy to an extent. Hormones of adipose tissue, leptin and adiponectin enhance the circulation of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ agonists, for therapeutic usage. The novel therapeutic approaches include laser and other potential applications in surgery which guide to therapeutic armamentarium. The new insights from the research and clinical trials could potentially strategize the management of lipodystrophy.

2012-06-09T02:02:14+00:00Copyright (c) https://med.stmjournals.com/index.php?journal=CTCR&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=13Evaluation of Turbidometric hsCRP Kits Commercially Available in India for Cardiovascular Risks Estimation2012-07-01T23:47:09+00:00P. Panneer Selvampksoju@gmail.comDr. Dhiva S.pksoju@gmail.com
The aim of the present study is to evaluate four turbidimetric assays, available in India, suited for Clinical chemistry analyzers; the analytical performances were measured with in the concentration range 0.32–7.5 mg/L, which has been proposed for cardiovascular risk assessment. Our study is comprised of four internationally accepted brands of immunoturbidimetric kits used for High Sensitive C- Reactive Protein (hs-CRP) estimation. Twenty different concentrations were analyzed over a period of 6 days to study the standard deviation (SD) and Coefficient of Variation (CV), using automated analyzer Miura. Significantly higher SD and CV% was observed in the lower concentrations of samples and lower SD were more or less the same over the period of 6 days. The sensitivity of Roche kit was found to be better with a low SD and CV%, in the low concentration samples. The study shows that there is a difference in the sensitivity and detection capacity of kits, the repeatability and the variation is also seen varying from lower to higher concentration, the variation is more marked in the case of low concentration samples when compared to the variation in the high concentration samples
2012-06-09T01:53:04+00:00Copyright (c)
