Ashish Pareek, Kalpana Verma

Abstract

The term “pain” originates from the Latin word “poena” meaning a fine, a penalty. It is a hostile impression that can range from mild, localized discomfort to agony. Usually the pain that persists for more than 6 months duration is known as a chronic pain. It is a poorly defined condition. Chronic pain may occur in the whole body, or in the brain or spinal cord. It is difficult to treat due to its complex natural history, unclear etiology, and poor response to therapy. It disturbs the quality of life of the patient to a great extent. Yoga is a simple and very cost-effective technique, which relieves the pain both physically and psychologically. Yogasanas improves blood circulation, facilitating muscle tension and by concentrating the mind on the breath, Asanas combine to comfort the nervous system. Long-term profits include condensed stress and anxiety levels, and amplified feelings of tranquilizing and well-being. Yoga therapy is non-expensive and quite effective in various manners. It can be used in every patient with chronic pain.
