Evaluate The Effectiveness of Demonstration Among Nursing Students in Terms of Skills Regarding Assessment of Respiratory Rate in Selected Nursing Colleges of Ambala, Haryana

Abstract


At birth, the baby enters extra uterine environment which has low available humidity. In such an environment, the sick newborn is required to struggle for physiological adjustment for surviving. If they fail, it leads to newborn mortality and morbidity. Respiratory distress in a newborn is a challenging problem. The study was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of demonstration among nursing students in terms of skills regarding assessment of respiratory rate in selected nursing colleges of Ambala, Haryana. The research approach is experimental with one group pretest and posttest design. The final data were collected from 80 B.Sc (N) 3rd year students of M.M. College of Nursing in NICU and Postnatal ward of MMIMS&R Hospital after getting formal permission from Principal of M.M. College of Nursing and Medical Superintendent of MMIMS&R (Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) Hospital, Mullana Ambala. Convenience sampling was used for selecting hospital and purposive sampling technique was used for nursing students. The data was collected from 80 B.Sc. (N) 3rd year students. Findings of the final study revealed that in pretest most of the students (60%) had average level of skills whereas in posttest 1 most of the students (56.3%) had very good level of skills and in posttest 2 most of the students (58.7%) had very good level regarding assessment of counting respiratory rate. So, it is concluded that demonstration is an effective way of improving skills among nursing students.
