Surendra Kumar Kala, Ravi Kumar Mathur, Niteesh Lamoria

Abstract

Twenty five patient of splenic trauma underwent splenorrhaphy at NIMS Medical College. Splenic injuries were graded I to V, and splenorrhaphy was attempted except when the spleen was shattered or when multiple injuries were associated with hypotension. The technique of splenorrhaphy was simple suture or with the addition of hemostatic agent in five case. Postoperative rebleeding occurred in one patient and led to splenectomy at reoperation. Splenorrhaphy can be safely performed in properly selected patient after splenic injury. The risk of rebleeding is practically nil when the spleen is fully visualized during repair.
