Secret behind the Safety of the Siddha Products: An Insight from Metal Chelation

Abstract


Metal chelating property of various time tested siddha herbs were tested individually vis-a-vis Ocimum sanctum, Piper betel, Piper nigrum, Piper longum, Leucas aspera, Wrightia tinctoria, Indigofera aspalathoides, Corallocarpus epigaeus, Zingiber officinalae, Tinospora cordifolia Bacopa monnieri, Solanum trilobatum, Celastrus paniculatus. Most of the plants showed metal chelating effect suggesting their role in in-activating metal toxicity. The findings are presented in the paper.
