Clinical Evaluation of Naqooh Shahtara in the Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Abstract
Diabetes is a major public health problem and considered as one of the most common non-communicable disease, globally. Although the prevalence rate of the disease varies country to country. However, WHO has projected India as the country with the fastest growing population of diabetes patients. Due to its consequences diabetes has become a silent killer that kills one person every 10 seconds, and worldwide it kills 3.2 million every year. In Unani System of Medicine Diabetes is known by the name Ziabetus. Unani physician have been treating diabetes since ancient times; they have described a number of Unani drugs both single and compound for the management of diabetes. The present study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Naqooh Shahtara in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The patients were given test drug orally in the form of Naqooh once daily 15 minutes before the breakfast for 60 days. The study showed good response on blood sugar level of the cases treated with Unani formulation without any apparent side effects.
