Malaria Parasite ‘Secretome’: A Potential Drug Target
Keywords:
Secretome, Drug discovery, PlasmodiumAbstract
Considerable amount of literature is available on secretory proteins of Plasmodium. Computational approaches along with mass spectrometry have been instrumental in gathering large volume of information on secretome of malaria parasite. However, structural characterization of secreted proteins and its implication in host parasite interaction has not been addressed so far. Also, the secretome of the parasite has been feebly targeted as potential drug and vaccine targets. In this respect, we feel that we have a window of opportunity to contribute to this field over longer period of time.
