Abstract

The modern advanced era of medical field doesn’t know the Ama and the role of Ama in pathogenesis of diseases. Because all the medical sciences are objectives; except Ayurveda which is only a subjective medical science. The matter of aam is formed, created or produced in the body. Aam is responsible for every Nija Vyadhi. Agni is the centre point of living body. Aam, if not properly and timely treated, it disturbs physiology. This stage of aam is noted well only in Ayurvedic science. Aam is end product of food, which is accumulated or deposited in amashay and also in the end of grahani (the duodenum). The jatharagni-mandya leads to improper digestion of ahar-ras, which in turn results in improper formation of initial end products ahar-ras. Therefore, that formation is sluggish and it is retained in the stomach for a longer time. Due to its retention it gets fermented and purified. Such ahar is called ‘aam’. So, it becomes very important to know the exact concept of ‘Aam’ in Ayurveda.
