ROLE OF BASTI KARMA IN MANAGEMENT OF PRIMARY OPEN ANGLE- A CASE REPORT

Abstract


Glaucoma is one of leading cause of blindness. Primary Open-angle glaucoma is a chronic condition that slowly progresses over many years. In its earliest stages, it produces no pain, visual changes, or other symptoms. As the condition progresses and the optic nerve become damaged, the following symptoms appear in either one or both eyes, peripheral vision (vision from the side of the eyes) gradually decreases. Patients develop “tunnel vision”, the ability to only see straight ahead. If left untreated, blindness results. Glaucoma cannot be cured, but treatment may help delay disease progression. Despite of better understanding of its pathogenesis, satisfactory treatment is not yet to be established. Ayurveda is holistic medicine of science which is not only cure the visual function of the patient and also improves quality of life of individual. The present study was conducted on already diagnosed patient of Primary Open-angle glaucoma to establish the effect of Chasuksya nirhu Basti and Mahathriphaladi ghrita tarpan. The study has revealed that the parasurgical approach is very effective in the managing such type of conditions. There was marked improvement in visual acuity and reduction in intra ocular pressure (IOP).
