Identification of Drug and Vaccine Targets in Highly Mutant Clostridium botulinum B1 okra by Subtractive Genomics
Abstract
In the present work subtractive genomics approach is used to identify vaccine and drug targets of Clostridium botulinum B1 okra strain to speed up the rational drug and vaccine design. It revealed that out of 3292 coding sequences of the pathogen, 215 represent essential genes that have no human homolog. Further analysis was done for 215 genes by the protein sequence sub-cellular localization database, in which 33 genes were identified as plasma membrane gene products which are possibly exposed on the pathogen surface. These 33 gene products are identified as potential drug and vaccine targets for the pathogen.
