Research Insight: Oncology and Hematology
Abstract
Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The name's etymological origin is the Greek word (ónkos), meaning "tumor", "volume" or "mass". The three components which have value-added survival in cancer are prevention, early diagnosis and treatment. This is by reduction of risk factors like tobacco and alcohol consumption. Cancer is deadly disease which is caused due to uncontrolled growth of the cells and forms from the extra volume tissue known as tumour.
