Sunil Kumar Agarwal, Jayant Jain, Gaurav Kumar Nirwal

Abstract

Superior lumbar hernia is one of the rare hernias. It is a rare abdominal wall defect that usually presents spontaneously after trauma or lumbar surgery or, during infancy (congenital). Diagnosis is difficult because they are either asymptomatic or may present with vague complaints. They are sometimes misdiagnosed as lipoma, fibroma, cold abscess, hematoma or retroperitoneal tumor. Diagnosis is confirmed by C.T. scan. We report a case of a 60-year-old man, who presented to the outpatient department with abdominal discomfort, pain, and a large swelling over left lumbar region since eight months. Patient also has history of trauma to left hip joint 15 years back.
