Clinical Study on Lakshadi Guggulu and Panchatikta Ksheer Vasti in Osteoarthritis of Knee Joint

Management of osteoarthritis in ayurveda can be done according to the management of Sandhigatavata. For the management of asthi vikaras (osteological disorder) Tikta Kshira Vasti is indicated. This study was done to evaluate the efficacy of Lakshadi Guggulu, and Panchatikta Ksheer Vasti in the management of Osteoarthritis (Knee joint). For the present work 30 clinically diagnosed patient were selected and randomly divided into three groups. Group A treated with Lakshadi guggulu 500 mg twice orally, Group B treated with Panchatikta Ksheer Vasti (420 ml), Group C treated with Lakshadi Guggulu and Panchatikta Ksheer Vasti. The total duration of this work was 30 days with 1months of follow up period. The various criteria worked upon are Joint pain, oedema, tenderness, Restriction of joint movement, Stiffness, Local crepitation and walking distance. Significant result were obtained on pain in joint movement, restriction in joint movement, joint stiffness, local crepitation nearly in all the groups with best result in combined group or group C.
