Cardiology in Unani Medicine: A Review

Cardiology has been a topic of research since ancient time throughout the world. According to the Unani physicians Qalb (heart) is considered to be the Uzue Raees (supreme organ) of the body. Many Unani physicians like Hippocrates, Galen, Rabban Tabri, Abu Sahal Maseehi, Ibne Sina, Majoosi, Zakaria Razi, Ibne Nafees etc. have emphasized to describe the structure and function of the heart. They have also discussed various cardiac diseases, its aetiology, clinical features, diagnostic parameters and treatment in their treaties. These works of Unani savants have been proven to be a strong foundation and stepping stone for the researchers till now. Here in this review an attempt has been made to describe the basic thoughts and valuable experiences of Unani scholars in the field of cardiology.
