Biochemical Studies of Trikatrayadya Lauha in Animal Model
Abstract
Trikatrayadya Lauha (TKL) is an ayurvedic preparation which is widely used in iron deficiency anemia. We carried out this work to explore the effects of TKL on lipid profile, liver, and kidney function. TKL was administered orally to male albino rat. After 46 days of treatment period, animals were fasted for 18 hours after the last administration. Biochemical studies were conducted to know the effect of TKL on lipid profile, liver, and kidney function in the blood. Independent sample t-test was conducted for statistical significance tests. TKL preparation reduces triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL level while HDL level remain unchanged. Lowering of triglyceride and bad cholesterol is particularly beneficial in diabetes and cardiac patients with hypertriglyridemia and hyperlipidemia.
