This study was conducted to assess the efficacy of Tamsulosin (α1,adrenergic antagonist) in the management of lower ureteric calcului. Sixty patients of lower ureteric calculus (solitary) were randomly divided in two groups: Group I (Tamsulosin ) n = 30 and Group II (Placebo ) n = 30. Group I received Tamsulosin 0.4 mg (Veltam® – Intas Pharma) plus Diclofenac (Voveran®) 75 mg on demand, group II received placebo (Vit-B-complex) plus Diclofenac 75 mg on demand. Results were analyzed statistically. Average stone size was between 5.96 and 6.08 mm in group I and II respectively. Expulsion rate was 90% in group I and 60 % in group II. Spontaneous expulsion beyond four weeks was 6.6% in group I and 10% in group II. Mean duration of expulsion was 7.87 and 18.47 days in group I and II respectively. Medical expulsion therapy with Tamsulosin is effective in management of lower ureteric calculus of size up to 7 mm.Downloads
