Tashannuji Usre Tams (spasmodic dysmenorrhea), which means painful menstruation, is one of the major gynecological problems. It is a single commonest cause of the female absenteeism from school, college and work places. The pain is spasmodic and occurs in lower abdomen, low back or in the thighs. This study was done to observe the prevalence of risk factors of spasmodic dysmenorrhea. The study consisted of 180 unmarried girls between 12 and 26 years of age with the complaint of pain in lower abdomen during menstruation. Intensity of pain was assessed by pre-structured and pre-tested schedule. A detailed history regarding age of menarche, education, socioeconomic status, impact on lifestyle, etc., was taken. Assessment of the Mizaj (temperament) was made. The data was recorded in CRF. It was observed that the disease was more prevalent in the age group of 17–21 years and in Damvi Mizaj patients and in patients of MIG and in patients of beyond primary education. Those patients having family history of dysmenorrhea were more prone to develop this disease.
